Welcome to 'The Thread'

A year into building Billie & the Fox, we're finally sitting down to tell you what this is really all about.

Our Story: 5 min read

"We didn't want to make clothes that looked good in photos. We wanted to make clothes that became part of the story."

Welcome to The Thread, our little blog, and the place where we'll share everything that doesn't quite fit on a product page. The stories behind the label, the thinking behind the clothes, and maybe even a few things that have nothing to do with either.

We've been meaning to write this first post for a while. A year, actually. But between late-night packing runs, designing pieces, sample approvals, and Britt wrangling her little busy product tester Harper, plus two more on the way (yes, we're both expecting and 5 days apart!) — it kept getting bumped to tomorrow.

Well. Tomorrow is here. And we're really glad you found us.

Where it started

It started with a feeling, the kind that's hard to articulate but impossible to ignore. There were plenty of clothes out there,  but finding pieces with real character, vintage-inspired, genuinely well made, and built to outlast the season? That was harder than it should have been. Harper deserved clothes that told a story. Clothes that didn't fade into something forgettable after three washes. There was this constant pull between what looked great and what survived a real day: a morning at the park, a lunch that went sideways, an afternoon where someone decided the garden was actually a racetrack.

And then there was the other thing. The pink aisle, the blue aisle. Your choice of princesses, dinosaurs or cars. The way so much of kids' fashion seemed to make decisions for kids before they'd even had the chance to decide for themselves.

We didn't want that. So we started asking: what would we actually want to put our kids in? Pieces designed for curious, playful little humans, not for a category on a shelf. Clothes that felt like an invitation to be exactly who they are. Fashion, made small.

That question became Billie & the Fox. And now, with three little ones almost in the mix between us, it feels more personal than ever.

What we believe in

From the very beginning, we knew we wanted to do this differently. Not just in how the clothes look, but in how they're made, how long they last, and what happens to them after.

The name

Billie is bold, a bit wild, full of ideas before 8am. The Fox is clever, brave, always two steps ahead. Together they feel like every kid we've ever loved — the ones who don't sit still, who ask too many questions, who find magic in the most ordinary Tuesday. That energy is who we design for.

One year on, and just getting started

A year in, we're still a small team with a big belief. And we're finally carving out this space, The Thread, to share more of what's behind the label. The process of building a brand from scratch. The stories of families wearing our pieces. Honest thoughts on kids' style, slow fashion, and raising little ones with a sense of self.

And yes, probably some things that have nothing to do with clothes at all.

Our newest collection, The Dreamer, is live now, and it feels like the most us we've ever been. We can't wait to tell you about it.

So thank you for being here, for trusting us with a little part of your story. It means more than we can say.

With so much love,
Britt & Shannae x
